2024 New Mexico Goalball Tournament

The California School for the Blind (CSB) is proud to participate in the New Mexico Goalball Tournament on Saturday, December 7th, 2024. Our CSB students are representing our school at this tournament. We will be competing with the New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (NMSBVI). We have some great competition coming our way.

2024 Highlights

  • We earned 4th place overall, the athletes competed in games against strong opponents from Minnesota, New Mexico, and Colorado.
  • Our team received praise from other coaches for the way they play as a cohesive unit, their defensive skills, and their ability to move the ball around the court.
  • Every player on the team scored at least 1 goal during the tournament.
  • The athletes made quick and effective changes to the game plan when situations shifted; they stayed composed under pressure.
  • A special shout-out to Steven, who was chosen for the All-Tournament Team! This recognition reflects his outstanding skill, effort, and dedication throughout the season and the tournament as the team captain.
  • Our athletes built new friendships during social time and the homecoming dance.

2022 Highlights

  • We earned 2nd place out of 5 teams in the tournament!
  • A CSB student won tournament MVP with unanimous votes from all coaches
  • CSB beat Colorado 10-0 in our first game of the tournament
  • CSB students played a very high-level match in overtime against the NMSBVI boys. We came up short, losing 7-6
  • CSB students won against the NMSBVI girls 9-2
  • The team made friends with and competed against 30 goalball players from New Mexico and Colorado
  • We had a homecoming dance with all 3 schools
  • On our way to the airport on Sunday, we stopped at White Sands National Park

Our coaches shared this with the CSB staff upon coming back home:

For most of our athletes, this was their first time playing in a competitive, high stakes environment. For some, this was also their first time traveling without their family.
