Assistive Technology Forum

A forum for technology teacher specialists working to support blind and low vision students in an educational setting.

The California School for the Blind (CSB) is proud to support the annual Assistive Technology Forum, a multi-day professional gathering designed specifically for technology specialists working to support blind and low vision students in the K-12 educational settings. This forum provides a dedicated space for collaboration, resource sharing, and advancing best practices in the field of assistive technology. Held once per year at a host site - typically one of the Council of Schools and Services for the Blind (COSB) member schools - the forum brings together specialists from across the United States. Participants stay connected throughout the year via a dedicated listserv exclusively for educational technology professionals in this area of focus. While this listserv is not open to Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments (TVIs) with a general educational focus, TVIs are encouraged to connect with their local school for the blind or regional service center to access shared resources and collaborative support. To find a school for the blind or service agency, you can look through the Schools and agencies for the blind in each state - Council of Schools and Services for the Blind External link opens in new window or tab..

The 2024 - 2025 Assistive Technology Forum was hosted in Fremont, California at the California School for the Blind. The forum was originally established during the 2008 - 2009 school year by Adrian Amandi, Jerry Kuns, and Jim Carreon in CSB's Technology Lab, and it continues to rotate among member schools. Schools interested in hosting a future Assistive Technology Forum are encouraged to contact their state's school for the blind or reach out to the California School for the Blind's Assistive Technology (AT) Team at CSB's AT Program.
