Highlights from 2024-25

The California School for the Blind's Statewide Outreach Services (SOS) and Education Resource Center (ERC) had an exciting 2024–25 school year! We provide free statewide support—consultation, assessment, training, and short-term educational programs—to ensure every blind, low vision, and deafblind student can thrive in their local schools and communities.
- Reviving CAPVI: Relaunched the California Association for Parents of Children with Visual Impairments (CAPVI) statewide parent group with monthly virtual meetups and a new board connecting families of children with visual impairments.
- Hosting Major Events: Led White Cane Day, Day of Code, Assistive Technology Forum, Lowenfeld-Akeson Symposium, and the 8th Biennial Principals of Schools for the Blind Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (POBS STEM) Institute.
- Assessment Center Impact: 185 assessments & consultations across 78 districts, plus 23 professional presentations statewide.
- Assistive Technology Innovations: 34 on-campus tech assessments, 36 consultations, and 7,000+ users of the Screen Reader Training (SRT) website

- Low Vision Clinic: Served 75 students with in-depth evaluations and device trials, including 15 in regional travel clinics.
- Short-Term Programs Growth: 34 courses and 157 student enrollments in Short Courses, Summer Academies, and the new Learning Lab.
