CSB at Make48

Discover how CSB students triumphed in the Make48 competition, earning the "Best Pitch" award for their adaptive rock wall invention.

In April, three talented students from the California School for the Blind (CSB) namely Kaj, Malibu, and Ahmad participated in Make48, a televised 48-hour invention competition hosted at the Kansas School for the Blind. Competing against teams from five other schools for the blind, our students showcased their ingenuity and teamwork while designing innovative adaptive sports equipment.

Their invention, an adaptive rock wall, featured a cutting-edge design using a netting system integrated with Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights and vibration cues to guide blind and visually impaired climbers from one hold to the next.

Over the course of the competition, Kaj, Malibu, and Ahmad excelled in all aspects of the project:

  • Designing and building a functional prototype.
  • Developing schematics for their invention.
  • Crafting a business plan and promotional video.
  • Delivering a compelling pitch to a panel of judges.

Although they did not take home the overall competition title, their innovative idea and outstanding presentation earned them the prestigious "Best Pitch" award along with a cash prize!

We are immensely proud of Kaj, Malibu, and Ahmad for their perseverance, sportsmanship, and representation of the CSB community. Their accomplishments are a testament to the creativity and resilience of our students.
