Lesson plan intended for transition students.
Overview
Students will reflect on how their white cane supports independence, safety, and self-advocacy. This lesson is designed to take 30-60 minutes.
Learning Objectives
- Reflect on personal cane use in daily life
- Communicate experiences in their preferred format
- Build confidence in sharing their story
Activity
- Students will respond to two of the following prompts:
- "What does your cane help you do each day?"
- "How does your cane support your independence?"
- "What do you want others to understand about cane use?"
- Students can choose the format they want to use to respond (i.e., written reflection, dictated story, or audio recording)
- Students can then share their stories to the whole group or in small groups (2 or more)
